Muncie, IN – Sheila Cannon, Resource Development Manager for the Energize-ECI Regional Planning District, announced that the District received a grant from the Indiana Brownfields Program Trails and Parks Initiative for a Phase II Environment Site Assessment for the 1605 E. Main St. property owned by Delaware County.  The ¼- acre property is the site of a former gas station which operated from the early 1900’s through the 1960’s.  The site is located in a primarily residential area and allegedly contains two underground storage tanks.  Ms. Cannon advised that Astbury Environmental Engineering has been contracted by the State of Indiana to conduct the Phase II Environment Site Assessment, which will include a geophysical survey, 10 soil borings, a Site Specific Sampling Analysis Plan (SAP), a Health and Safety Plan (HASP), plus a comprehensive report summarizing the results and recommendations.  Determination of site contamination is the first step to developing an appropriate remediation plan to return the abandoned property to proper use.  The on-site assessment work should be completed by the end of May.
